bracedlets are fun, durable bracelets, crafted entirely out of orthodontic materials. these colorful, stretchy chains, accented with metal brackets and contrasting elastic rubber bands are meant to be stacked and layered. bracedlets were created by new york orthodontists, marc lemchen and jennifer salzer with the creative help of jennifer’s sister and lulu frost designer, lisa salzer. i wore lulu frost for my wedding, and now that i have a 7 month year old, this may be a more appropriate accessory.

amber gray for brides

i want to share something beautiful that i came across today. in her blog, to be devoted, a bride chronicles her wedding and other “pretty things.” in a lovely homage to her mother who passed away without knowing her daughter was engaged, kelly tailored her mother’s wedding dress for her special day. most touching is an excerpt from the letters that the mother left for kelly to find after she passed. here are her wishes for her daughter:

“I wish love for you. You deserve it. I pray you live each day safe and secure. I wish you have children of your own. You will be a wonderful mother and wife. Im sure your children will give you as much joy as you have given me. I hope our relationship remains undeniable and immeasurable, the strongest bond on earth. I hope you don’t have to many heartaches. You love to give love and I hope you find it and keep it safe. I hope always you will look over your shoulder and be aware about whats around you. I hope if you have a little girl, she looks just like you. But I see you having a boy. I wish someone to take good care of you. There are always a hundred things you wish for your children. I also hope you spend your golden days with the one and be secure with getting old.”

more nuptial photos from jimena roquero. i love everything about this spanish wedding – the lights, her braid, the stylish details, the ring bearer. this couple radiates love and their friends and family seem to be bathing in it. felicitaciones!

i’m crazy about these photographs of nicole and anthony by jimena roquero. they evoke feelings of another era where the mod bride marries her dashing groom. nicole epitomizes the chic city hall bride – from the short lace dress, to the birdcage headpiece, to the white stockings and heels. beautiful and inspiring.

i enjoy reading social q’s in the ny times’ style section each week. today’s column focuses on wedding etiquette. some quotes that gave me a chuckle:

here comes the brid(al fever), during which perfectly normal couples lose their grip on reality, become completely narcissistic, and crave attention 24/7 — sort of like liza minnelli at radio city music hall.

wedding receptions require flexibility on the part of guests, no doubt about it: so-so food, cheesy music and corny toasts – all to let other people play king and queen for a day. but seating plans are as hard as rubik’s cubes, and we’ve all pulled a lousy table assignment in our day.

i’m afraid the wedding bells have made you a little tone deaf, lauren. if I were granny, i’d much rather hear from you than from some johnny-come-lately who may turn out to be ex-husband no. 1.

one year ago today…i got my hair done, slid into a white dress, sipped champagne, prayed for sun, re-read my vows, united with frank for the first time, snapped hundreds of photos, felt drops of rain in the field, wondered when the rabbi was going to show up, reapplied my lipstick, signed the ketubah, bawled at the first note of “in a sentimental mood,” walked down the aisle (still bawling), listened to the most beautiful vows ever written, said “i do,” kissed my groom, relaxed in the silo with my husband, learned we made the new york times, attended our cocktail hour (trying not to miss a single appetizer), dined on phenomenal food, listened to beautiful words by friends and family, bussed back to the castle, bribed the bartender to stay open, smiled and smiled and smiled.

this may be my favorite kate moss look of all time – dressed in chanel couture at leah woods’ wedding. strolling hand in hand with her fur-clad daughter (the other hand holding a cig), she stole the show by arriving 10 minutes after the bride. what she lacks in etiquette, she makes up for in style.

easy breezy new york wedding. photo from east side bride.

june is the quintessential month to marry (the beefed up announcements in the ny times wedding section is proof in the pudding). june is also the month i married my man – in two weeks it will be one year. in honor of love and marriage, my postings will have a theme throughout june. mick and bianca kick things off.

stone barns, where i got married, was recently featured on sesame street. i got a little teary when i heard that – my childhood and present converging. in the segment, a girl and her friends collect eggs from the chickens and prepare scrambled eggs. “o” is for organic!

if you have the interest (and $1.99), download the “elmo finds a baby bird” episode from iTunes. or if you are resourceful and find it on the internet for free, let me know!

we spent our honeymoon in zihuatanejo at the tides. the ever changing floral arrangements on the pillows was just one of the hotel’s lovely touches. as you can guess from the photograph, this was the pillow on the day of our arrival. we truly felt melcomed (it had to be said). this is a simple and sweet idea for valentine’s day – spell out your love for your sweetie in petals.

extra, extra, our wedding save the date is featured in new york weddings (winter 2010). what’s most exciting is that frank is listed as co-designer. thank you to our talented team: designer suzanne jennerich and printer dusty hollensteiner of publicide. from the ny times announcement to ny magazine, this wedding got press.

temperley

i keep hearing about people renewing their vows. ok, not people that i actually know – just celebrities. although it’s sort of an odd phenomenon, i can appreciate the appeal. especially when i saw this dress by temperley. i would most certainly renew in this dress. now, if only i had a celebrity’s money to buy it.
