i love this sweet little ditty by jill stuart. editorial fashion aside, who could actually wear this…a teeny bride in santorini? i do find it lovely though….

isn’t there a rule that horizontal stripes are unflattering? well lo and behold, this model proves that theory is rubbish! on a serious note, this alexander wang dress is pretty darn cute. featured on fashion gone rogue.

i don’t place a huge importance on valentines day, although i do like some novelty. the heart shaped lolita sunglasses my husband gave me two years ago are prominently displayed on my jewelry box.

in the spirit of this commercialized (ahem, heartfelt) holiday, i’ll be posting related images and inspiration, leading up to the big day.

this outfit featured on lookbook.nu is perfectly sweet and suited for summertime. if only it was (summer). a simple scoop white tee and floral mini, paired with brown sandals. the strategically placed hat pulls the look together. i’m placing this girl in mexico, maybe puerto rico – which is exactly where i’d like to be right now.

every time i go to the nail salon, i face the wall of bottles and ponder a departure from my standard ‘lincoln park after dark’ or ‘you don’t know jacques’ for a bold, glittery gold. there it is, in all it’s sparkle, practically calling out my name. but i never end up choosing it for fear of looking too juvenile. but this photo from yimmy’s yayo puts a new spin on glitter, in a very grown up way.

spring/summer 2010 for 45rpm is a contrast between the ocean and mountains. according to their gorgeous lookbook, the two are more linked than one thinks. one common thread is evident – the beautiful, thoughtful design that goes into each piece. i’m posting a few photos from the collection. furthermore, the lovely, happy people modeling the clothes really shine.

a recently bought chambray shirt from madewell (or workshirt as they call it) has become one of my new favorite pieces. it’s great to wear casually with jeans or leggings, but i also like to spice it up by pairing it with a sequined mini. as i was browsing stockholm street style, i found some great examples of glamming up denim. i guess it doesn’t hurt to be drop dead gorgeous either – these chicklets could make a paper bag ravishing.

before designing beautiful baubles, moritz glik was a shoe designer in his native brazil. glik’s work is very contemporary, with an antique jewelry influence. a sample of his work (and my favorites) is below.

backyard bill simply states that it features stylish folks in their own clothes. it’s similar to the sartorialist, however it’s more catskills than milan.

some photos are accompanied by a short questionnaire:

Where did you live?
What is your personal soundtrack at the moment?
Your star sign?
Who is your style icon?
What do you do or what would you like to do when you grow up?

i finally found my career: i want to be a majorette. a few weeks ago, i attended my first oklahoma football game and was mesmirised by the sooners’ majorette. the batton twirling, the flips, the marching, the costume were all…wait, i just realized something. i can’t twirl, i can’t flip, i can possibly march, but what i can do is wear that hot outfit.

okay i admit it, i just want to wear the outfit. do i need to attend majorette school for that, or can i just sport the ‘do? i’ve posted some inspirational photos below, for your enjoyment and mine.

i love the jelly collection from toy watch. their interactive site allows you to customize a watch by selecting a case and strap in a variety of colors, for up to 110 combinations. i’m a sucker for colors, so choosing one poses a challenge. maybe old saint nick will decide for me?

i love this vintage postage stamp from belgium (via grain edit). it bares a striking resemblance to peter arkle’s, work – specifically his designs for bumble and bumble model project.

the dress that grace kelly wore in to catch a thief is jaw dropping. she honestly takes my breath away. paired with cary grant, they are a force to be reckoned with.

is there a comparable style icon or actress today? who rivals grant….clooney? the grace and class of that age seems to be absent in modern day times. i quite like the suavity of that era – there is almost something magical to it. in a world where robert pattison is revered (granted i read twilight and new moon), i think many of us crave polished style.

40carrots_yogurt

lately, i’ve been clocking time at bloomingdale’s to help launch the bumble and bumble styling bar. i never realized what a cult following their frozen yogurt has. women stroll the “b way” with towering cups of fro-yo. friends sit across from each other at 40 carrots, chatting over piles of the frozen treat. weary shoppers lap it up to reenergize before throwing down more cash.

did i mention how big the serving is? it’s just not normal for someone to consume that much yogurt in one sitting. i’m happy to say i did not finish mine (although i made quite the dent). my regret, however, is minimal. i got vanilla + berry, the latter to support breast cancer.

i keep hearing about people renewing their vows. ok, not people that i actually know – just celebrities. although it’s sort of an odd phenomenon, i can appreciate the appeal. especially when i saw this dress by temperley. i would most certainly renew in this dress. now, if only i had a celebrity’s money to buy it.

pierredeuxthe other day, i found myself walking down 59th street between 1st and 2nd and passed by pierre deux. a flood of memories rushed over me. when i was a young teenager, i wanted a pierre deux handbag more than anything. all the cool girls at temple carried them and i thought they were the most wonderful purses in the entire universe. i begged my parents for one and they wouldn’t let me have one. not even if i bought it myself (i remember it was $35). i was beside myself.

then, someone went to france. i can’t remember who – it must have been a friend of my mom’s. and she brought me back a purse in a blue pattern. i should have felt estatic, even privileged that i had a a bona fide french purse. but i couldn’t help feeling like a phony, like i would be spotted a mile away with a faux deux. although i felt a sense of shame, i wore the purse – which would eventually contain a true pierre deux coin purse that i purchased (with my own money).

of course, today i can appreciate that my mom arranged for me to have a french purse. it was thoughtful and kind, considering her (most likely) desire to delay my inevitable growth. but i will never forget that sense of longing and desire that i felt.

i love lyell’s pretty, feminine clothing. their fall collection is gorgeous as usual.
ah, there is something so lovely about fall fashion….

when you’re growing out your hair, there comes a point where suddenly out of nowhere, it’s “really long”. my point happened last month and my friends and colleagues keep saying: your hair is “really long”. granted i work for a hair company, which heightens the importance of the topic. but it’s true, my hair is long and i need to find a way to keep the length in a fresh way.

i love looking at hair references and imagining what my own hair could be. often the looks aren’t realistic for me and i find myself saying, “if i we’re brave, i would do that,” or “if i had light hair, i would bleach it platinum.” i came across a photograph of daisy lowe on garance dore who’s do, i believe requires minimum courage and might just suit me. i’m going to bring it to my stylist for a professional opinion, but i think this might be just what i need. red leopord hot pants on the other hand…
